Chevrolet Has Two Models in KBB’s 10 Best Green Cars

Kelley Blue Book released its top 10 Best Green Cars list for 2012, and the only car brand to have two models crack that list: Chevrolet. The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco and the 2012 Chevrolet Volt both made Kelley Blue Book’s top 10 Best Green Cars list for their efficiency and unique green technology.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco uses e-Assist technology uses power from the lithium-ion battery to provide a needed electrical boost in certain driving situations. Regenerative braking, engine start-stop functionality, and aggressive fuel cut-off during deceleration are all features that come with the 2013 Malibu Eco. With all of these technologies active, the Malibu Eco can travel 580 highway models with a full 15.8-gallon fuel tank.

The 2012 Chevrolet Volt operates using both a battery and a gas generator. Drivers can switch between all-electric driving mode and gas-driving mode. The Volt can drive 35 miles on a full charge without using any gasoline and can drive up to 344 miles using the gasoline generator. The EPA estimates the Chevy Volt has a total driving range of 344 miles.

Chevy Going Global with 2013 Malibu

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will be released in the spring of 2012 all around the world. This will be Chevrolet’s first global sedan, but the US version of the 2013 Malibu will offer a unique turbocharged, 4-cylinder Eco engine.

The Eco engine will also come with a battery pack and a motor that will help to boost fuel mileage. Chevrolet will replace the V6 option in the 2013 Malibu with this new Eco engine. There will also be some structural changes to the 2013 version of the Malibu. Along with being made slightly smaller, the 2013 Malibu will be built with the most aerodynamic properties in mind.

All of these factors will allow the 2013 Malibu to achieve an estimated 25 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway, which is unparalleled for a midsized sedan.

Chevrolet has made a concerted effort to improve fuel economy with many of its newer vehicles. The Cruze, Sonic and Spark are all new Chevrolet vehicles that offer dramatically improved fuel efficiency compared to older models.
