2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek to Debut at New York Auto Show

The Subaru XV Crosstrek will make its North American debut at the New York Auto Show next month. After already being unveiled in Europe last year, the latest Subaru crossover it primed to appear in America.

Standard on the XV Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter boxer-four engine that can produce 148 horsepower, along with a 5-speed manual transmission. A Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission is also available. It is also estimated the XV Crosstrek will achieve 25 miles per gallon city and 33 miles per gallon highway.

The Premium trim level will come with power doors, locks, and windows, a security system, and Bluetooth phone integration. It will also feature steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth audio streaming, and iPod and USB/auxiliary jack integration.

On the Limited trim XV Crosstrek, heated front seats, heated mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer comes standard. Other optional features for both Premium and Limited trims include a power moonroof, navigation system, and rearview monitor.

2012 Subaru Impreza Wins MotorWeek Drivers’ Best Compact Car

The Subaru Impreza was awarded 2012 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Compact Car at the Chicago Auto Show. This comes as another positive for Subaru, who set a new sales record in 2011.

Redesigned for 2012, the Impreza comes with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. It comes with a 2.0-liter Boxer engine that produces 148 horsepower, yet the Impreza still achieves 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, the highest of any all-wheel drive car.

The 2012 Subaru Impreza also has great handling, spacious seating and plenty of cargo space. The Impreza comes with the option of a five-speed manual transmission or an enhanced, second-generation Lineartronic continuously variable transmission.

General Motors Introduces Sensor Fusion Technology

General Motors is introducing a new safety system that will use sensor fusion technology. This type of technology will allow the integration of several different safety systems that can alert drivers of upcoming road hazards and assist them in avoiding accidents.

The system will use radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors and will be featured on the all-new 2013 Cadillac XTS. GM has announced the Driver Assistance Package will include the following safety features:

“Chevy Happy Grad” Ad Wins Super Bowl Contest

26-year old Zach Borst of Long Island was announced as the winner of Chevrolet’s Route 66 Super Bowl Ad contest. The ad will air during the telecast of Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th.

The commercial features a brand new Chevrolet Camaro that a recent graduate believes is his after receiving his diploma.

The contest saw ads from 32 countries and had over 32 million total online views between December 22 and January 14.

Subaru BRZ Makes Detroit Debut

The Subaru BRZ has been put on display many times around the world, but it has finally made an appearance in the United States at Detroit’s Auto Show. The latest sports car from Subaru will be available for purchase in the United States later this year.

Featured on the Subaru BRZ will be a 2.0-liter SUBARU BOXER engine that will produce 200 horsepower. This new engine will sit lower and farther back, which will enhance response and handling while offering a great amount of power and fuel efficiency.

One of the most anticipated Subaru cars in quite some time, the BRZ will come standard with such features as limited-slip differential, High-Intensity Discharge headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a GPS navigation system. The BRZ has also been praised for its unique and attractive exterior design.

Chevrolet Unveils 2 New Concept Cars

Chevrolet has debuted 2 new concept cars at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI. The Code 130R and the TRU140S are the latest vehicles that Chevrolet will market to the millennial generation.

Both cars will earn about 40 miles per gallon with 1.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder engines. They are both considered mild hybrids with eAssist and will not be electric powered. GM also hopes to integrate WiFi, MyLink, and heads-up display into the concepts.

The Code 130R is a four-seat coupe that has rear wheel drive. The concept had 20-inch wheels and a six-speed automatic or manual transmission.

 

The TRU 140S is smaller than the 130R and has front wheel drive. It is a very aerodynamic car that has an exotic flair. The TRU 140S is based off of the same platform as the Chevrolet Cruze and Volt.

Chevy Allows Fans to Preview Super Bowl Ad, Win $10,000

Chevrolet gave independent film makers around the world the opportunity to shoot their own 30-second commercials for their next Super Bowl commercial. 197 clips were received by Chevrolet and the best 35 clips are now on Chevrolet’s Route 66 website.

Fans from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Mexico, The UK, and the United States can go to the website and view each of the ad spots. While they can’t pick which ad actually wins, they can watch, share, and rate the videos among their friends and family.

Those who participate and most creatively answer the question, “If you could drive to any destination in your home country, where would you go?” are eligible to win $10,000. Second place winners will earn $3,500 and third place winners will be awarded $1,500.

Top Safety Picks for Cars under $20,000 Include Sonic, Cruze ECO

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released a list of the 20 safest small cars that have a starting price below $20,000. The 2012 Chevrolet Cruze ECO and Sonic are among the cars on the list.

The 2012 Chevrolet Cruze ECO comes with excellent interior space, plenty of standard features, and great fuel economy. Its 138-horsepower, 1.4-Liter turbocharged engine gets 28 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallon on the highway. Optional features include rear parking assist and remote vehicle start.

New for 2012, the Chevrolet Sonic offers sporty styling, great performance and versatility, as it is available as a hatchback or sedan. Power windows and heated mirrors are available on the LT trim. Along with every new GM vehicle, the Sonic also comes with the OnStar System for 6 months.

The cars that made this list had to earn top safety scores in all IIHS safety crash ratings, including front, side, rollover, and rear-end crash tests. They also have to be well-performing and efficient small cars that have a sticker price starting below $20,000.
